With thousands of skin care products on the market, how do you know which one is best? Many of them are quite enticing, boasting labels claiming to reduce wrinkles, firm your skin, and basically defy the aging process on your face. But is this really true? More importantly, is it really safe?
The Big Scary Secret
Cosmetic companies have long known about the one single ingredient that, when added to any skin care product, would almost guarantee results and more importantly, repeat sales. So, what's the secret ingredient? You might be shocked to find out that it's none other than estrogen. And even worse, it isn't required to be listed on the product label. So, there's no way to really know if you're using an estrogen-spiked product or not.
Why it Works
This predominantly female hormone comes in three different forms in the body. One of its many known functions is to maintain soft, smooth skin which is why it's a no-brainer to include in skin care products for both men and women. But here's the catch: when the hormone enters the body from the outside (through the skin) rather than being produced on the inside (from our own glands), it can disrupt the delicate balance of sex hormones inside the body. When that happens, other important hormones can become blocked, preventing them from reaching their destination. And that's where thyroid comes in…
Collateral Damage
After just a few short months of use, the small amount of estrogen contained in the skin care product will begin to interfere with the most important thyroid hormone, T3, and its ability to remain available for use by the cell. Over time, symptoms of hypothyroid can occur, which don't have anything to do with the thyroid but instead, have everything to do with the skin care products you're using.
Fixing the Problem
The first place to start is to carefully review the label claims on your current skin care products. Anything that uses the words ‘age-defying,’ ‘wrinkle-removing,’ ‘youth serum,’ etc. should be avoided. Then, head for your computer and search for ‘organic skin care products’ to find one that fits your needs and your budget. If you aren’t sure which one to choose, give us a call and we’ll be happy to help.
Once you’ve made the switch, it’s time to get those hormones cleared out of the body through a liver cleanse. We suggest using specific nutrients and herbal formulations to help eliminate any excess hormones that have accumulated, allowing the thyroid hormones to function the way they’re supposed to within the body.
